Housebuilding work underway The first Wixams homes are now taking shape in Lakeview (Village One) and Lagan Homes has opened a show home. Two further housebuilders, Bryant Homes and George Wimpey, plan to open show homes by the autumn and construction of the affordable housing is due to start imminently. In addition, planning applications have been submitted for Lakeview’s lower school and village centre, which will provide a mix of community, retail, recreational and commercial facilities. Lakeview will also have sports pitches and large areas of open space. The infrastructure works have been progressing well, and the realigned section of A6 opened this spring. Carillion is due to complete its infrastructure contract shortly. Meanwhile, work continues on the Village Two Design Code and fine-tuning the Masterplan for the remainder of Wixams. Situated three miles south of Bedford, around the former Elstow Storage Depot land, the project will see a 750 acre brownfield site transformed into four garden villages, a town centre and an employment area, offering homes, jobs, schools and community facilities.
