The Wixams Vision
Wixams will be one of the largest new communities to be built in the UK in recent times. Gallagher has consulted with Mid Bedfordshire District Council, Bedford Borough Council and Bedfordshire County Council to ensure that Wixams will offer a high quality environment in which people will want to live, work and take pride.
Wixams will provide a significant contribution towards the region’s housing requirements. Developing a disused brownfield site, to ensure the best possible use of available land and to reduce pressure on greenfield land, is in line with government policy.
The design concept will draw on the best traditions of Bedfordshire Market Towns, together with the latest sustainable development measures. Wixams will be much more than just a place for new homes; it will be a truly sustainable community with its own employment area, schools, health services, leisure and recreation areas, transport links and community centres.
A number of housebuilders will develop plots within the villages and Detailed Design Brief and Codes are being developed to ensure that the houses are delivered to a consistently high standard, with reference to local building styles. Gallagher’s role as Master Developer will be to undertake delivery of the overall development, working with the housebuilders to ensure that the Wixams vision of a high quality, attractive and sustainable community is consistently delivered.
We have worked particularly hard to ensure that appropriate community facilities will be made available at an early state to support the first residents.
